Recruiter / HR Advisor

Location: Dewsbury, West Yorkshire
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Office-based with flexibility

About Gardner Champion

Gardner Champion is a long-established UK law firm with over two centuries of legal heritage. While our history is rooted in tradition, our focus is firmly on the future — supporting our people, our clients, and our communities through thoughtful, modern legal practice.

As our firm continues to grow, we are looking to appoint a Recruiter / HR Advisor to play a key role in attracting, supporting, and retaining talented people across the business.

This is an opportunity to join a professional, people-focused firm where relationships, discretion, and long-term thinking genuinely matter.

The Role

This role sits at the heart of our people strategy.

You will take ownership of end-to-end recruitment, while also supporting broader HR and people initiatives across the firm. Working closely with partners, managers, and the leadership team, you will help ensure Gardner Champion continues to attract individuals who align with our values, culture, and standards.

This is a hands-on role. It will suit someone who enjoys being involved in both the operational and human side of HR, rather than a purely strategic or high-volume recruitment position.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment

  • Managing the full recruitment lifecycle across legal and business support roles
  • Drafting clear, professional job descriptions and adverts
  • Coordinating shortlisting, interviews, and candidate communications
  • Acting as a point of contact for candidates, ensuring a positive and professional experience
  • Working with hiring managers to understand role requirements and long-term team needs
  • Supporting onboarding and early-stage employee integration

HR Support

  • Assisting with day-to-day HR queries and employee matters
  • Supporting performance review and development processes
  • Helping maintain HR records and ensure compliance with employment legislation
  • Contributing to initiatives that support employee engagement, wellbeing, and retention
  • Supporting the continuous improvement of HR processes and documentation

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is professional, approachable, and organised, with a genuine interest in people and long-term careers.

Essential:

  • Experience in recruitment and/or HR (in-house or agency)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Comfortable working with stakeholders at all levels
  • Well-organised, detail-oriented, and reliable

Desirable:

  • Experience within a professional services environment (legal, financial, or similar)
  • Knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
  • Experience supporting both recruitment and general HR activities

What This Role Is (and Isn’t)

To manage expectations clearly:

This role is:

  • Relationship-driven
  • Office-based and collaborative
  • Focused on quality, not volume
  • Suited to someone who values long-term impact

This role is not:

  • High-volume agency recruitment
  • Sales-driven or commission-based
  • Fully remote
  • A purely strategic HR role removed from day-to-day people matters

Why Join Gardner Champion?

  • Join a respected firm with genuine heritage and stability
  • Be trusted with responsibility and autonomy
  • Work in a supportive, professional environment
  • Contribute directly to the growth and future of the firm
  • Build a long-term HR and recruitment career within a respected organisation
